Resources for Sponsor Packet #3
The idea of a ‘novena’ – nine days of prayer – began with the time period between Jesus’ Ascension and Pentecost. In that time, the disciples were in hiding, out of fear, trying to figure out what to do next, but also gathered in prayer. The coming of the Holy Spirit, as the Lord had promised, on the tenth day, answered their questions. Filled with the power of the Spirit and given its gifts, they began to witness to the Lord’s death and resurrection far and near.
We hope that as you and teen prepare for Confirmation and the Holy Spirit descending upon the Confirmandee that you will prepare your hearts and minds to grow ever closer to the Holy Spirit. You and your teen will need to choose a novena and pray together for 9 consecutive days. You can pray a Novena to the Holy Spirit in honor of the upcoming day or choose a favorite Saint.
