Where will my child play?

STM Soccer Club has 3 home fields.  These are:  STM school field, Maplewood S/N field on Rampart behind Ron Meeks park and the Lloyd Johnson pool, the large unfenced field beside Parker Elementary School on Willowbend.  Your child will practice and play home games at one of these fields.  Kinder up to U-8 teams use the STM school field.  U-9 and U-10 teams use the Maplewood field, and U-11 and up teams use the field next to Parker Elementary School.  Away games are generally played at the home fields of other HYSA registered teams in the southwest area of Houston.

When will my child play?

Games are played on Saturdays.  Occasionally, in the event of rainouts, games will be played on Sunday.  This is an exception and does not happen frequently.  Kinder Soccer games are played at 8AM.  All other ages are scheduled throughout the day from 9AM into the afternoon.  This time varies for any individual team throughout the season.

Kinder soccer usually practices one evening a week.  Most other teams practice 2 evenings per week.  Younger teams may drop the second practice once the playing season starts.  Older teams usually do not.  Practices are at the coach’s discretion and the times are set by the coach.  Please remember that our coaches are volunteers and they pick a practice time that they can make.  Most are willing to work with parents for whom the practice time may be inconvenient.

What team will my child play on?

All rostering is done according to HYSA/STYSA regulations.  All rostering decisions are at the discretion of the registrar.  All rosters are tentative until the teams are registered with HYSA, which occurs sometime in August for fall teams.  Rostering for soccer is based on the child’s AGE as of July 31st of the playing year, not the child’s grade in school.  A child cannot play “down”, i.e. play on a team for which he is too old.  Once teams are finalized, your child’s coach will call to let you know his/her practice schedule.  Many coaches like to start practicing before HYSA registration.  They may be given a tentative roster by the registrar.  On some occasions, this tentative roster will not be that coach’s final roster.

Who will be my child’s coach?

This could be you!  Coaches are parent volunteers who have a child on a team.  It is vital when children are moving out of the Kinder program and up to HYSA teams that parents seriously consider volunteering to coach.  No experience is necessary.  HYSA has clinics for new coaches and for experienced coaches whose teams are moving up to a new level.  All teams must have a coach and an assistant coach registered with HYSA.  These adult volunteers must be registered with the team, or that team will not be registered.  If you are contacted by someone from the STM Soccer Club asking that you coach your child’s team, please prayerfully consider doing this.
