Fr. Bill's Weekly Message for May 30, 1999
Dear Parishioners:

We are embarking on an exciting project this week. Our Parish Council has enthusiastically endorsed supporting one of the Kosovar families being relocated here in Houston. We will be helping them in various ways.

The letter to the Hebrews says, "Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels. Be mindful of prisoners as if sharing their imprisonment, and of the ill-treated as of yourselves, for you also are in the body" (Heb. 13:2-3).

Let us be grateful to Almighty God that we are blest so much that we have the means to reach out in the love of Christ to be of help.

Another important note is a change in our daily Mass schedule. We are experimenting with new times for Mass, Monday to Friday. Beginning Monday, June 7, daily Masses will be celebrated at 6:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 5:30 p.m. Depending on the results, this may be our more permanent schedule.

Fr. John Cragan offers us some reflections on the feast of the Holy Trinity, the central core mystery of who God is.

"Moses speaks of the Lord as 'a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness' (vs. 6). The Israelites have been unfaithful, yet Moses prevails upon God to be faithful. Yahweh is loyal and this forgiveness demonstrates the giving nature of the Trinity.

"Paul pleads with a divided community at Corinth to make mutual peace a reality and hence to experience God in their midst. In this particular blessing, Paul includes not only Jesus but also the Spirit and hence asks the community to appropriate the Trinity's way of life: Jesus' self-giving in death, the Father's loving surrender of the Son, and the Spirit's creation of fellowship between Christ and Christian.

"...The Father's sending of the Son brings salvation to the world. To accept the message of Jesus is to be caught up in the pattern of giving, sending, and loving.

"In the face of hurt and betrayal, the modern Christian is asked to reflect on a God who reaches out and forgives. We too must create peace in the face of factionalism. Rather than selfishness we must demonstrate giving, sending, and loving. These are real life attempts to live our belief in the Trinity. 'In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit' is the legacy and responsibility of every Christian" (John Craghan, Th.D., S.S.L. Liguori Publications).

Being made in the likeness of God has serious implications for our lives. It is by grace we entered into existence. It is by grace that every human being is given a divine dignity which should be respected at all times and circumstances.

It is because of the Trinity that racism and bigotry are immoral. It is because of the Trinity that husband and wife become procreators with God in bringing into life, the third person of their trinity, a child. This mystery can never be explored enough. Today, we celebrate our God's very nature in which we share. Let us allow our hearts to be touched by the very communion of persons in whose image we are made.

God bless,
