Fr. Bill's Weekly Message for 1/31/99

Dear Parishioners:

We are having a special meeting on February 9, 1999 in Prinster Parish Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. At this meeting we will discuss the implementation of DISCIPLES IN MISSION. Disciples in Mission is a program our bishop has asked every parish to use during the next three years.

Writing in Evangelii Nuntiadi, Pope Paul VI said, "... evangelizing means bringing the good news of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the divine power of the Gospel itself. Its essence is the proclamation of salvation in Jesus Christ and the response of a person in faith, both being the work of the Spirit of God.

Evangelization must always be directly connected to the Lord Jesus Christ. 'There is no true Evangelization if the name, the teaching, the promises, the Kingdom, and the mystery of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God are not proclaimed" [Evangelii Nuntiandi 22].

The Bishops of the United States further defined a practical meaning of this evangelizing spirit into three goals:

I expect all the leaders and committee members of our various ministries to be present for this meeting. Evangelization is an important work of our Church. Disciples in Mission is a process that integrates the Sunday liturgies, small faith-sharing groups, catechesis, family activities, planning, and follow-up activities into a coherent parish-wide experience of evangelization.

Pope John Paul sees the new millennium as a springtime for a new evangelism, a new and fresh approach to inviting all to share the vision and truth of Jesus.

Please mark this time on your calendars. We have to make a decision no later than July 1, 1999, and I don't want to make the decision alone. So mark February 9, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. to be at Prinster Parish center.

God bless,
