Fr. Bill's Weekly Message for
6/22/97
Dear Parishioners:
Every once in a while I get to "surf" the Internet. There is
a world of information out there. As many of you know, STM has
its own home page on the net. By the way, we now have a new,
easier to remember address, www.STMhouston.org.
I have found several St. Thomas More parishes on the net.
There are thousands of pages that contain information about the
Church, religion in general, even the Vatican has a page.
There are business pages, cooking recipes, etc. But for all
the good stuff, there is an element of evil. I read a statistic
the other day that those sites which feature sex and pornography
are only 3.5% of all sites on the web. Along with that, however,
was the statistic that 85% of all "hits" on the net are on those
3.5%.
It used to be that a man had to risk humiliation and go down
to a section of town and risk being seen to get pornography.
There all he had to do was go to the video store; then all it
took was a cable into the house; and now all we need is a phone
line.
I urge all parents to be very vigilant about who and what is
allowed on your computer. Children today are very clever when it
comes to this technology.
Peace
Fr. Bill
